We had such a wonderful Christmas Eve. We stayed at our house and had so much fun.
We enjoyed some delicious Mexican food, ohhh it was good.
After dinner we started off the festivities by doing our annual gingerbread house smash. This is a favorite for me and the kids. It's really nostalgic for me, I grew up doing this on Christmas eve at my Aunt Ginny's. So I love watching my kids enjoy the same thrill. We give them toy hammers and they get to just "go to town" on our little gingerbread house. They love it!
Of course, Tucker just got to watch this year, but Bailey and Tanner were way into it.
Yummy!
Even little Tucker got to try some gingerbread.
Luckily, it was too hard and stale for him to get much of it dissolved, but he liked sucking on it.
Tanner felt compelled to make sure he broke every single little piece of gingerbread.
Next thing we did was sprinkle our reindeer food on the lawn. The kids loved the idea of leaving food for the reindeer while Santa delivered our presents.
Our elves brought the reindeer food the night before and the kids were very excited about it.
They very enthusiastically sprinkled the food all over the yard.
Bailey loved all the sparkly glitter inside the reindeer food.
Daddy helped Tucker sprinkle his reindeer food too.
Then the kids found a package on our front door...
It was an urgent delivery from none other than the "pajama elves" and it was addressed to Tanner, Bailey and Tucker.
Tanner loved that he could see his name on the package.
Tanner brought it inside and Bailey and him tore into it.
They were thrilled to find Christmas pajamas inside and a book.
Bailey was so happy to find a red tutu skirt inside the box. That girl...
Tucker didn't know why everyone was so happy, but he was happy to join in the fun.
Daddy read the pajama elves book to Tanner and Bailey. It's such a cute book and its such a fun Christmas Eve tradition.
Tucker kept trying to get to the presents...he successfully pulled the wrapping paper off two of his siblings presents. Little stinker.
And of course, I had to grab a picture of the kids in front of the tree in their Christmas pj's.
How stinkin' adorable are they? Love those kids.
Next on the agenda, we said goodbye to our sneaky elves. The kids found them next to a goodbye letter. I read them the letter from Buddy and Sparkle.
Then they got to say their goodbyes and give their elves hugs
Goodbye elves. See you again next year!
Then we laid out the cookies we made that day. We put them on our special "Santa plate" and laid them next to the fireplace. Santa is sure to enjoy these gems. The kids cut them out of the sugar cookie dough and decorated them all by themselves.
Then we read in the scriptures about the birth of Christ. I used our "Little People" nativity set and tried to reenact in for them using the toys. Bailey and Tanner loved it. They sat directly in front of me and listened and watched the whole time. It was sweet.
We ended the night by eating some special green & red popcorn and watching "Mickey's Christmas Carol". And these two boys fell asleep watching our movie. I carried Tanner into his bed and then put the other two munchkins down too.
It was such a nice evening with our little family.
After the kids went to bed, Chris and I watched "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation". That's the Herb's Christmas Eve tradition and I've grown to love it. I really love watching my husband laugh and laugh and laugh. He loves that movie.
Santa came later than night and filled our stockings. I guess we were all good this year.
Christmas Eve was just so nice!
