Bailey's FIRST Ballet Recital

Last night Bailey had her first ever ballet recital. It was a Christmas recital and their dance was set to the song "Where are your Christmas" from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
It was completely adorable but it took so much work to get to this point.
Bailey isn't the most attentive ballerina. She is easily distracted and doesn't see the need to sit and listen to instructions most of the time.
The dress rehearsal was a complete disaster. Bailey had never been on a stage before and so she felt like there was a need to explore every nook and cranny. She was running back and forth across the stage and hiding inside the curtain. I was beyond frustrated as she distracted every other little girl in her class and completely ignored her teacher.
Between the dress rehearsal and the actual recital we had a 2 hour break. So Bailey and I had a little talk. A very serious little talk. We talked about how she had to stay on her "x" (which was a little tape marking" on the stage) and how she couldn't run around.
I took her to get some dinner and then we picked up Daddy and the boys. Then it was back to the auditorium. She was ready and excited.
Here is a picture of her backstage stretching before their dance.
The start of the recital number- Bailey nailed this part of the dance. She knew this part really well.
And this is her favorite part- the twirl. I seriously love her on her tip-toes.
About half way into the dance, Bailey forgot the routine and started making up her own moves.
I was cracking up. She never left her "x" but she totally went off-book.
After she busted a move, she got back on track and finished the dance with the correct routine.
And nailed the end pose. It was totally adorable. I didn't even care that she forgot the middle part of her dance because she did exactly what I told her and never left her "x". I was so proud.
There were definitely tears of relief and a little bit of pride ...
When Bailey came back to our seats, Tanner said "Bailey you were incredible and your look beautiful!". I just love that boy. He was so proud of his little sister.
I think what really made his night though was when they invited the siblings up to dance on the stage at the end of the recital. Tanner loved it!
After the recital ended, Daddy gave Bailey a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
She was so happy. She looked right into his eyes and said "Thank you so much for my flowers Daddy!"
They are both a little smitten with each other.
She just loved her flowers so much!
We are so proud of our little ballerina.
(Tuck was already in his car seat during these pictures)
I am beyond grateful for Bailey's teacher, Ms. Lana. She is so patient and kind with the girls. Bailey's class was full of girls ages 3-5 and I can't imagine trying to teach them. She did such a great job.
Unfortunately, she retired from teaching and this was her last recital. We will keep taking ballet but not from Ms. Lana. We are grateful to her for helping Bailey come this far. If you knew how horrible  our first class was, you'd understand what a complete miracle this recital was.
So proud of my girl!
