Water Country USA & Battleship Wisconsin with Aunt Laura

On Thursday, Aunt Laura came to visit us and it was pretty exciting. We picked her up from the bus station in Richmond and drove back to Fort Lee. That night we took her out for dinner and we all enjoyed some delicious Mexican food. Tanner and Bailey were out of their minds with excitement because Aunt Laura was staying with us in our room. After dinner we drove back to the room and dropped off Chris and the kids. Then Laura and I had a little girls night. We did a little shopping and got milkshakes. It was so fun to just chat and laugh with my sister.
Friday morning we ran our errands and then loaded up and drove over to Water Country USA in Williamsburg, VA. This water park was awesome. At first we walked in and felt like it was pretty underwhelming. But as we walked around more, we realized the park was huge and hidden behind trees. It was so much fun and so many of the rides were kid friendly.
We all got to ride the first tube ride we found. Tanner rode with Aunt Laura, Daddy took Bailey and I rode with Tuck. It was awesome. The kids all loved it.

Then it was over to the wave pool. I think the kids could have played in the wave pool all day. We must have spent at least an hour being pushed around in the waves.

It was so fun to watch the kids play in the waves together.

And it was so fun to have Aunt Laura there to play with us. She's kinda awesome.

Then we went over to one of the kid pool/play area. It was awesome. Tons of small slides and sprinklers. We played for a couple hours.

At one point, Laura and I snuck away while Chris watched the kids and we rode one of the big slides. I'm not typically a fast slide person, but this one was super fun.
Then we all went to eat some dinner. We found a restaurant that served kid-friendly food and found a place to sit.
Then we found some more rides that were good for the whole family. Bailey and Tanner loved this ride, but Tucker just clung to me the whole time.
Everyone else rode it a second time while I kept Tucker at the bottom. He was happy to wait and watch for everyone else.

Then we found another kid pool area and the kids happily played here for a while. There were so many fun kid-friendly play areas. It was awesome.

Then Chris and Aunt Laura took the big kids on a pitch black tube ride. Tucker was too scared so we waited at the bottom for them again. Tanner and Bailey both loved it and said it was totally awesome.

Then we played in the lazy river for a while. Laura and I took turns racing around the river with the kids. It was pretty fun. We are so glad we got to share this park and its awesomeness with Aunt Laura.

The next day was Saturday. We drove over to Norfolk and found a cool place to eat. The restaurant was called "Freemason Abbey". It use to be a church and it was completely gorgeous. The food was amazing. Best crab soup of my life.
Here are the kids outside the restaurant. We enjoyed exploring Norfolk. It's such a cute city.

Then we drove over to Battleship Wisconsin. The Battleship Wisconsin is docked in Norfolk and is open for tours. It was pretty awesome.

The Wisconsin fought in WWII and the Korean War. During other times it was used as a training ship for sailors. It's a very impressive ship and we had a lot of fun exploring it.

The kids enjoyed traveling between the decks of the ship.

While Chris and Tanner loved the gun rooms and engineer stuff. I enjoyed exploring the sailor's and officers quarters. I really can't imagine living on a ship, in small quarters on the water. It makes me feel a little anxious just thinking about it. However, I did enjoy seeing how sailors lived.
Bailey loved seeing the cafeteria. It was pretty cool. Again, I can't imagine feeding so many people everyday. I can hardly handle feeding my family of five.

After we finished touring the battleship, we drove over to the beach.
The kids were once again starving so we had a little picnic on the beach.
We tried a different beach this time and I kinda loved it. It was calm and shallow and perfect for Tucker and Bailey.

It was so fun to spend some beach time with my sister.
Tanner was bummed that the waves weren't big enough to surf on his boogie board, but he enjoyed building his sandcastle.

And all my kids enjoyed playing with Aunt Laura.

It was a great afternoon spent at the beach. The water was perfect and it wasn't too hot. We stayed there until almost bedtime. So much fun.

Then we drove home. Sunday morning we went to church and just hung out at the hotel.
Then yesterday, Monday, we ran some more errands and then went out of sushi as a "farewell to Aunt Laura" lunch. It was hard to say goodbye, but it was so awesome having her here. She is going to be missed. That afternoon I took her to the airport and she flew back to Utah.
