A Fun Evening in Richmond

Yesterday Dad finished his classes early and so we took off for Richmond to go play. We arrived the "Science Museum of Virginia" around 3 pm. The museum is housed inside an old train station and its a pretty cool building. We loved the dome and the columns. So neat.

This museum was filled with different exhibits. The first exhibit was based on "speed" and there were different ways to measure speed. We raced, threw baseballs, swung bats to check reaction times. It was pretty cool.

Then it was over to the space museum. The kids loved this!
We also played with some magnets.
And tried out the hurricane simulation. Well Tucker didn't want to try it so I waited outside the glass with him. He loved watching Bailey, Dad and Tanner get blown around.
Tucker really enjoyed the model trains. It would have been amazing to see this place when it functioned as a "Broad Street Station".
Then it was over to the "gallery" area. I don't know why they call it the gallery, but it was full of hands on experiments.

This area was a big hit with everyone.
We also built a bridge and Tucker loved it. He must have crossed the bridge 20 times.
Then it was over to the light room. The kids loved climbing on this thing.
And this awesome invention measured the kids. It recorded their height and weight and the kids loved it.
After playing at the museum until closing, we drove over to "Station 2". It's a burger place that was converted from a old fire station. It also had fire station paraphernalia all over the place. The kids loved it.
Then it was over to the "Byrd Theater" for a family movie.
This theater was built in 1928 and has been functioning since then. It's really a neat place.
The theater keeps the cost of tickets low so its affordable for all. It's on $1.99 a person. Totally awesome. How awesome is the interior?

And this chandelier? Amazing!  This was Bailey's favorite feature. Dad took Bailey around to look at the theater before the movie started.
Tanner and Tucker were both pretty scared. Tanner kept telling me that it "creeped him out" but he sat bravely next to me during the entire movie.
We watched "Finding Dory" and we all enjoyed it.
Bailey fell asleep during the last 15 minutes of the movie. But they boys stayed awake.
We grabbed a pic outside the theater before heading home.
Richmond is just a quick 30 minute drive away, so it's perfect family outing for a Friday night.
We got home around 9;30 pm and carried our sleeping babes inside.
It was such a fun night. We are sure enjoying Virginia.
