A Colonial Halloween in Virginia

We had so much fun during Halloween this year. The kids' schools didn't have any parties, so we partied extra hard on our own. Friday night we went to the trunk-or-treat at Chris' school. The kids all came home with completely filled Halloween buckets and many full-sized candy bars. They totally scored and had a great time. Tucker was so cute saying "Tricky Treat" to everyone.
Then on Saturday night we went to our ward fall festival. There were games, food and a trunk or treat. So the kids got even more candy (ridiculous).
Then on Monday morning, Chris and I took the kids to ihop for their scary face pancakes. Every year in AR we got to ihop with friends and enjoy their free scary face pancakes. But we felt lucky to have Chris with us this year for our traditional Halloween breakfast.
While we waited for our food the kids watched the music video of "Thriller". They were totally entranced. It was so funny. Tanner told us later "If you ever run into a zombie or werewolf, just start singing and dancing and they won't hurt you". Valuable life lessons.

After breakfast, we took the kids to school. Don't they look so cute in their Halloween shirts?
Like I said, no class parties but they said they had a fun day regardless. ( I miss AR and all the fun class parties we had for Halloween!)
That night we dressed up and went trick-or-treating around base.
This year our theme was colonial. It seemed fitting considering where we were living and all the history we enjoyed. It was so fun and the kids actually all loved their costumes. Especially Tanner. He loved dressing up like a young George Washington and he loved his pop gun. Bailey loved her big poofy dress and Tucker loved his drum. Chris wore his costume to his class Halloween party and won "Best Male Costume". You're welcome Christopher!
We got so many comments on our costumes and everyone loved how original they were. I'm just glad I was able to borrow a friend's sewing machine so I could pull it off.

Tanner's time in Virginia and all our historic visits around the area have turned him into quite the history buff. Have you ever seen a 7-year old boy so totally in character?? He was cracking us up.
He was very particular about his costume and how it looked at all times.

Bailey loved her big dress and her "colonial girl hair"- as she called it. I felt like she looked the part and she really enjoyed the comments she got all night!

Big hair- don't care!
And then there was this cute boy. He was our drummer boy and he totally played the part.

He did find it difficult to hold both his drumsticks and his candy though.
It was pretty funny to watch him try and manage everything.
Here are some pictures from the various Halloween events we went to. The kids ended up with over two full buckets of candy each. WAY TOO MUCH CANDY!

I feel like this is an accurate depiction of our Halloween on base. Soldiers also patrolled the streets when we trick-or-treated the family housing on base.

We had a wonderful Halloween and now we are down to the final week before we go home.
I can hardly believe it. Graduation is on Friday and then we leave to drive home directly afterwards. AHHH!
I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween!
