Mexico Getaway

Chris and I just got home from the most wonderful getaway. This year we are celebrating our 15 year anniversary. We decided to celebrate early by going to an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Morelos, outside of Cancun. I can't believe how amazingly relaxing this vacation was. It was so hard to come back to reality.

We left Thursday, Jan 13th and traveled most of the day. We finally arrived at our resort around 7:30 pm. We stayed at a resort called Ventus and it was so nice. After getting checked in and settled into our room, we ate dinner. Sadly, I wasn't feeling great that first night. So we went back to our room after dinner and relaxed.

Friday morning I woke up still not feeling great. But I got up and got going and started feeling better. We got breakfast and then decided to relax on the beach. We spent most of our day at the beach and I quickly started feeling better. We read, talked and enjoyed unlimited tropical drinks. I drank so many pina coladas that first day that Chris laughed at me. They were delicious and they were delivered one after the other.

At some point during the day we ate lunch. There are tons of restaurants around the resort. We favored the Mercado de Delores. It was kind of like a food court except better quality food. It was all different kinds of small food counters serving different types of food. We ate until we were stuffed.
I discovered the crepe counter and I made sure to eat one every day while we were there.
After lunch we relaxed in one of the cabanas and napped. We drank more delicious drinks and I listed to an audio book. I don't think we have ever been so relaxed.

That night we got all dressed up and ate a delicious dinner at the French restaurant.
The food was so good and we enjoyed a nice walk around the resort after dinner.

Saturday we did more of the same. We relaxed at the beach and drank tropical drinks and just enjoyed ourselves.

Late Saturday afternoon Stephanie and Phillip arrived at the resort too. They had invited us on this trip and we coordinated our dates so we would each have some time alone as couples and then spend some time together. It was nice to have another couple to hang out.
We had a delicious Italian dinner that night and then went our own ways that night. Stephanie and Phillip were exhausted because their flight to Cancun was a red eye. So they went to bed early and Chris and I hung out.

Sunday we hung out around the resort, eating all the food and drinking all the tropical drinks.

We did a bike tour as well and that was super fun.
We got to see Puerto Morelos by bike and it was so beautiful.

We got to shop at a little market place in Puerto Morelos and we found little souvenirs for the kids and it was so cute.
Then we biked to the city center and explored there.

When we got back to the resort we got changed for dinner.
We had Mediterranean food that night. My entrĂ©e was only ok but the appetizer bar was fantastic.

We watched a show at the resort that night. It was a dancing show and it got a little racy. We ended up sneaking away and going somewhere quieter to hang out.

Then on Monday we got to go on an awesome excursion. We traveled to the Mayan ruins of Tulum.
We took a tour with a tour with a guide and then also got to explore on our own.
The ruins were amazing.
We learned about their gods and their temples. They had a temple for each of their Gods and they were positioned around their city according to the position of the Sun.

The city overlooked the ocean and we learned about how they settled it because they came across a narrow opening in the coral reef that allowed them to land on the beach. They could easily defend it and the overlooked allowed them to keep watch.

Previously you could walk down to the beach, but it was recently damaged and we couldn't go down there on our visit.

The carvings on the stones are so beautiful. It's amazing how much they could do with so little technology.

These little iguanas were everywhere. They really enjoyed sunning themselves on the stone. The one hiding in the rock crack had us laughing though.
After exploring the ruins we took a bus to get lunch and then do a cenote swim.
Lunch was delicious. Chris really enjoy his pork shank.
The cenote was beautiful! I was the first one in to explore from our group and I was so excited.
Chris was a good sport and he weaved his way through the trees above the cave to find this opening so we could get these pictures.

The greenish blue water was so beautiful.

After our cenote swim we took a bus to Playa de Carmen to do some shopping.
We were pretty exhausted by this point and didn't do much shopping. But it was so fun to walk around and see all the sights.

That night we rushed back to our reservation at the Japanese restaurant for dinner.
Dinner was delicious and we enjoyed it so much. Then we played games and hung out that night.

Tuesday was our last full day at the resort and we did our best to make the most of it.
This meant hot tubs, tropical drinks and pool time.
Then we went paddle boarding. This was actually harder than I thought it would be.

My legs got tired after a while and I sat down for a while.
I sure love this guy.
Then we went out on a little sailboat. It was so fun and beautiful.

I don't think I can get enough of the beach ever. It's my favorite thing and my favorite place.
And this is my favorite guy.

We ate lunch at the Mexican food buffet and then went back to the pool for a while.
On the way we took some more pictures around the resort.
Wednesday morning was our last morning. We ate breakfast and then hit the pool. We relaxed and talked until lunch time. Then we ate and checked out of our room and said our goodbyes.

We took a shuttle to the airport and started our journey home. We had a hard time getting home from Houston. We got back into the US just fine. We took our COVID test at the resort and tested negative so we had no issue getting back into the US. But then we were delayed in Houston for a long time and didn't get home until almost 1 am.

Regardless, we had such a wonderful time. We plan to go back again next year and hopefully every year. We loved it so much! I really don't ever remembering Chris and I being so relaxed.
Thanks for the fun Cancun- we can't wait to see you again.
